Back acne is exactly what its name suggests, which is acne that grows on people’s back. The acne can spread from your shoulders down to your lower back and butt. Just like the usual acne that grows on your face and other areas of your body, this type of acne outbreak happens when the skin pores are clogged by dirt, excess oils, and dead skin cells, which may cause bacterial infection and lead to inflammation. Sometimes tight clothing, excessive sweating, and poor hygiene can contribute to a back acne outbreak. This is why gym goers who work out in tight clothing and don’t shower afterward are susceptible to back acne breakout. If you see some pimples that are starting grow on your back, there are a lot of back acne treatment methods that you can use to effectively dry them out.

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a very effective back acne treatment not just for back acne but for all acne in the body. Tea tree oil contains antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that fight acne. It is best used topically because it easily penetrates into the skin to dry out the acne faster. Once the tea tree oil is applied to the acne, it will quickly reduce the inflammation and redness. Here’s how to use the tea tree oil back acne treatment.

Put 1 to 2 drops of tea tree oil on a cotton ball and ask someone to dab it gently on your back acne. Leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Do this once every day.

Another alternative way to use tea tree oil is to scrub it directly on the entire back during a shower. By putting tea tree oil on a back scrubber, you are exfoliating dead skin cells that are plugging the pores, while the tea tree oil is killing the harmful bacteria that are causing the acne. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse off afterward.

2. Sea Salt

Sea salt is not only used as a back acne treatment, it is also great for relieving stress, balancing oil production, and hydrating the skin layers. Sea salt contains anti-inflammatory properties that can bring down the acne breakout and reduce the redness and irritation.

In a bathtub filled with lukewarm water, add 2 to 3 cups of sea salt. Soak and relax in the tub for 20 minutes. Dry yourself with a clean towel and apply moisturizer. If you have oily skin, skip the moisturizer. You can do this once or twice per day depending on the severity of your back acne. You should see an improvement after about one week of treatment.

3. Honey

Honey contains natural antibacterial, antioxidant, and antibiotic properties, which makes it a great back acne treatment agent. It can help reduce acne scarring, remove dead skin cells, and leave your skin lighter, youthful, and glowing.

You can apply the honey directly to the affected skin area and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water. You can repeat this process 2 to 3 times per day.

Another alternative is to mix 1 tablespoon of honey and half-a-teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Mix together until it forms a paste. Apply this paste mixture to your back and leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water. Do this treatment only once a day.


4. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a powerful back acne treatment agent because of its ability to remove excess oil and dirt on the skin. It contains glucomannan and gibberellins, which is effective in treating wounds. It also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that make it the perfect remedy for back acne.

Cut the aloe vera and squeeze out the gel. Apply this gel directly to the acne and leave it for several minutes. Rinse it off afterward. It is preferable to do this twice per day, once in the morning and in the evening before sleeping.

Another way to use aloe vera for back acne treatment is to mix it with honey and turmeric. Blend half-a-teaspoon each of raw honey and turmeric powder, and 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Mix to form a paste and apply it on the affected area. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse it off with water. Do this once daily.

5. Turmeric

Back acne treatment usually has antibacterial properties that kill the bacteria responsible for the back acne breakout. Turmeric contains curcumin, which exhibits strong antimicrobial activity that kills the P. acne bacteria. It can also reduce the inflammation and balance the pH level of the skin to prevent future acne breakouts.

You can combine 1 to 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder and a small amount of sesame oil to form a paste. Apply this paste directly to the back acne and leave it for about 1 hour. Rinse it off afterward. You can use this paste 1 to 2 times per day for a few days. You can also add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk and drink it twice per day. This will help reduce the inflammation and pain.
